Building Information Modelling (BIM)

"BIM provides firms with an opportunity to take advantage of intelligent 3D models to produce higher-quality work, save time and money, and design more sustainably” Joy Stark, Autodesk"

Building Information Modeling or “BIM” is the process of developing building models, which are used in presenting and visualizing building components, construction sequences, resource allocation and other elements of the construction process.

The government’s chief construction advisor announced earlier this year that BIM will be adopted for the procurement and management of all public projects and is expected to become the standard process for all projects in the future.

The Design Buro recognizes BIM as an efficient way to design and construct buildings and is committed to developing and incorporating the use of Vectorworks Architect software, which will allow us to develop high-quality, accurate architectural designs. Lead by our BIM champions Neil Marshall and Oliver Thomas, the use of Building Information Modeling will enable us to enhance communication and collaboration with clients and other members of the design team, whilst improving the design and construction process and ensuring we maximize the sites potential.

The significant benefits of adopting BIM include;

  • Improved collective understanding of design intent
  • Helps clients and end-users in understanding and visualizing the end project.
  • Better outcomes through collaboration
  • Enhanced performance with swift and accurate comparison of different design options
  • Early detection of problems that might arise during construction
  • Better cost control/predictability
  • Faster client approval cycles
  • Improved overall project quality
  • Value at every stage of the construction course from preliminary conception to project achievement.

BIM is a proven approach for building design, through the delivery of reliable and co-ordinated building information.

"BIM is not about one profession, it's about everyone working in a collaborative way" Richard Waterhouse, CEO of RIBA Enterprises
